Michael Senchuk has been quoted a number of times in media, in particular about the future of sports. Most recently was in March 2008, in an article entitled “20th Century Gone, But 21st Wide Open for Cubs” by David Haugh in the Chicago Tribune.
“Partly because of those travel realities, futurist Michael Senchuk of Lilydale Inc. projects MLB penetrating the Asian market by establishing a third league in Japan governed by the same schedule and rules as the American and National leagues. At the end of the regular season, a round-robin tournament among winners of the new Asian League, the AL and NL would determine a true World Series champ.”
“Cameras are getting small enough and light enough that I wonder if we’ll ever consider putting them in different places like the front of a ball cap from the pitcher’s angle or the batter’s angle,” Senchuk said. “Why not on the bat or the ball or in a player’s glove?”
Bigger also might not be better, according to Senchuk. “If anything, I think future ballparks may have slightly smaller seating capacities,” he said. “I could see if outfield fences moved out a bit, especially if we start seeing more home runs again.”
Without making a value judgment on the use of steroids, Senchuk agreed. “The steroid thing will blow over in three to five years and within some length of time after that it will be completely forgotten,” he predicted.
